How to Measure Your Foot
The most reliable way to find your size is your actual foot length in centimeters.
- Place a sheet of paper against a wall and stand on it with your heel touching the wall.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe on the paper.
- Measure the distance from the wall to the mark in centimeters — this is your foot length.
- Repeat for the other foot and use the longer measurement.
- Match your centimeter value to the Foot Length (cm) column in the Size Chart, then read across for the European / US equivalent.
Why centimeters matter: La Sportiva builds footwear on European half sizes, which are smaller increments than US half sizes — giving more size options per run for a better fit. A remembered US size alone is not a reliable reference across models.
Climbing Shoe Fit
Climbing shoes are meant to fit snug — usually smaller than your street shoe.
Soft / Aggressive
Generally 2–3 sizes smaller than your street shoe for maximum sensitivity and edging power.
Trad / All-day
Fit 1–2 sizes under your street shoe size for comfort on long routes.
Stretch
Unlined slip-lasted shoes stretch about one full size; lined shoes stretch about half a size. Factor this in before buying.
Tip: Different last shapes fit different feet — try several models in your genre. If it feels good, it probably is. A well-fit comfortable shoe outperforms an ill-fitting tighter one.
Hiking & Mountain Boot Fit
Boots need room for socks, insoles, and foot swell during a long day.
- Find your American size in the Size Chart, then go across to your European size.
- Add one half European size to that value for hiking and mountain boots.
- Try boots in the afternoon/evening when feet are at their fullest, wearing your usual socks and any orthotics.
- With the boot unlaced and toes touching the front, you should be able to slip your index finger behind the heel.
- The lacing should lock the midfoot with no wobble; the heel should not slip; toes need room to splay.
Handmade note: Footwear is handmade, so minor variations in fit can occur between pairs of the same size. Don't walk outside or discard packaging until the fit is confirmed.
